Bal Norco Chassis

General Overview

Created in the 1990’s the light weight nature of the BAL Norco Ultra Frame created yet another opportunity for manufacturers to produce lighter weight trailers. The frame is currently in use on multiple trailer units being distributed in the United States and Canada.

The Equal-i-zer® hitch Link Plates (90-02-5204, 90-02-5374) are manufactured to fit frames in one inch increments including 3”,4”,5”, and 6”. The BAL Norco frame measures approximately 4-3/8”. This difference creates a gap from the bottom of the frame to the standard link plate 5” bolt hole. This gap can allow for bowing of the link plates reducing contact surface. The bowing can contribute to ‘walking’ of the link plates across the length of the frame.

Installation

For best results the gap must be eliminated from the bottom of the frame to the Link Plate bolt. This can be done in two ways:

  1. Order parts #90-02-5204 and #90-02-5374. These are link plates made to fit the BAL Norco frames specifically. To complete installation on one trailer you will need two (2) of each part.
  2. Create a shim that is equal to the width (not greater) of the frame and the gap height to the 5” hole of the Link Plate. We recommend using a shim made from a durable material such as steel or hardwood.
