What is a Trailer Tongue Jack

The trailer tongue is the part of the trailer that extends forward, including the coupler, to be paired with the hitch ball. Together, the trailer coupler and hitch ball connect the towing vehicle and the trailer. In a previous blog, we discussed the importance of checking your trailer tongue weight. In this blog, we’ll discuss what exactly is a trailer tongue jack and what is its purpose.

The Basics of the Trailer Tongue Jack

A trailer tongue jack is a device that is used to raise and lower the trailer tongue. This allows for easier maneuverability when hitching and unhitching the trailer from the vehicle. Most jacks also have a built-in mechanism for locking the jack in place once it is raised to the desired height. This prevents the jack from lowering accidentally, which could damage the trailer or injure someone who happens to be underneath it.

There are two main types of trailer tongue jacks: manual and electric. Manual tongue jacks use a hand crank to raise and lower the tongue. Electric tongue jacks are operated by a switch, which can be located on the jack itself or on a remote control.

Trailer tongue jacks help you level your trailer, attach your trailer, and stabilize your trailer during loading and unloading of cargo. While all trailer jacks accomplish the same purpose, be sure to purchase one that can handle the weight of your trailer tongue.

The FLIP™ Jack Foot from Fastway Trailer

If you’ve been towing for some time, you know that raising and lowering your jack can sometimes be a major hassle. The Fastway FLIP Jack Foot extends your trailer jack by six inches, saving you time and energy by automatically engaging and retracting depending on whether your jack has been lowered or not. Rather than finding wood blocks to rest under your trailer jack, use Fastway’s FLIP Jack Foot to lock in place and keep your jack firmly on the ground.

The Flip Jack foot can handle a maximum tongue weight of 1600 pounds and a maximum lift capacity of 4,000 pounds. For a quick demonstration, check out the video below. And to purchase the FLIP Jack Foot, check out the product page here for more information.
